Jesus Home Page
Jesus did some of His ministry in the temple but much of it was in the home. It seems like it was the place
where Jesus liked to connect with people on an intimate personal level.
Mary finds herself pregnant and with a worried fiance´. After a word from God, Joseph “took Mary home
as his wife.” Matt1:24 It was a safe place from the condemning world.
Entering a home was a significant event in Jesus' time. Some people were welcomed into a home, others not so
much. Social status, nationality, or religious belief could keep you from this type of personal connection.
a centurion came to him, asking for help. “Lord,” he said, “my servant lies at home paralyzed, …The centurion replied, “Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. Matt 9:6
The home was a central part of people's lives. A place where people belonged and Jesus heals a crippled man
and where does he tell him to go?
“Get up, take your mat and go home.” Matt 9:6
Jesus sends out his disciples and tells them exactly where to go, peoples’ homes.
As you enter the home, give it your greeting. If the home is deserving, let your peace rest on it
not welcome you or listen to your words, … or…leave that home or town and shake the dust off
your feet. Matt 10:12
Jesus spent time with people and touched people in the place that was central to their lives. Sometimes He
went to the houses of people who were shunned by the religious community.
Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.” Luke 19:5
While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate
with him and his disciples. Matt 9:10
Some of the homes would not have been frequented by anyone because the person of the house was
unclean. Don’t go near them, don’t touch them, let alone enter their house.
While Jesus was in Bethany in the home of Simon the Leper Matt 26:6
The home was where healing took place. Jesus the healer made house calls.
they went with James and John to the home of Simon and Andrew. …/Simon’s mother-in-law was
in bed with a fever, Mark 1:29
He did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James and John the brother of James. 38 When they
came to the home of the synagogue leader, Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing
loudly. 39 He went in and said to them, “Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but
asleep.” Mark 5:37
When he healed people he did not say ”run around the countryside shouting my name”. He simply sent them
home to share the good news with their family .
Go home to your own people and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has
had mercy on you.” Mark 5:19
Then his eyes were opened, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly. 26 Jesus sent him home, saying, “Don’t even go into the village.” Mark 8;26
Go,” he told him, “wash in the Pool of Siloam” (this word means “Sent”). So the man went and washed,
and came home seeing. John 9:7
The most serious discussion were in the house alone with disciples
They came to Capernaum. When he was in the house, he asked them, “What were you arguing about
on the road?” Mark 9:33
When they were in the house again, the disciples asked Jesus about this Mark 10:10
14 One Sabbath, when Jesus went to eat in the house of a prominent Pharisee, he was being
carefully watched. 2 There in front of him was a man suffering from abnormal swelling of his body.
3 Jesus asked the Pharisees and experts in the law, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath or
not?”Luke 14:1
Some of His most intimate moments were not in the temple but in homes with those he loved.
When one of the Pharisees invited Jesus to have dinner with him, he went to the Pharisee’s house
and reclined at the table. A woman in that town who lived a sinful life learned that Jesus was eating
at the Pharisee’s house, so she came there with an alabaster jar of perfume. Luke 7:36-37
Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I came into your
house. You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped
them with her hair. Luke 7:34
in Bethany, reclining at the table in the home of Simon the Leper, a woman came with an alabaster
jar of very expensive perfume, Mark 14:3
Then Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus’ feet and
wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.
John 12:3
He came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. Luke 10:38
When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went out to meet him, but Mary stayed at home.
John 11:20
Jesus recognized the emotional pull of the home and people's reluctance to let go and move out. It is
difficult to let Him take the place of the security of being home.
Truly I tell you,” Jesus replied, “no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father
or children or fields for me and the gospel … will to receive a hundred times as much in this present
age: homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields—along with persecutions—and in the
age to come eternal life. Luke 18:29
His desire was to create a new place of security, acceptance and love. He even stated the condition for living
in this new home. There is the old parental saying laying down the law, “As long as you are living under this
roof you will…”
Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will
come to them and make our home with them. John 14:23
The first condition is to love Jesus. The second condition to obey will follow as a result of the first. You will want
to obey His teachings because you love Him. The final result is Jesus and His father will move right into your
home to make you feel safe and loved.
We are all experiencing or building a home. Do we experience our home as a place where Jesus and His
Father live? Does the whole family interact in that experience?
Are we making our home a place where Jesus and His Father would feel at home?
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man
who built his house on the rock. Matt 7:24
Are we building our home by practicing what Jesus told us to do?

In one of the most touching moments as Christ was hanging on the cross was His bringing together John
and His mother. He entrusted His mother into the loving care of the one He loved.
and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his
home. John 19:27
While there is much to do out there in the world, perhaps the place to start and perfect our relationship with
Jesus and His Father is in our home. Do we take notice of Him as we go about the activity of living in our home?
Do we see and listen for Him in every room in the house? In our relationship with those closest to us, do they
feel the love of Jesus?
Many people feel like my home is one place where I can be myself. At home is probably the most difficult
place to "be transformed by the renewing of your mind." Our minds have been fully formed by the home we
were brought up in and currently live in. But living with Jesus can transform your mind. Living with Jesus
is not having the goal of being yourself.
Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.
24 For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it.
25 What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit their very self? Luke 9:23
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body,
I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Gal 2:20
It may be that home is the first place to find out who “myself" is when living with Jesus. Is home a place where
I can practice being like Jesus. And how I can best serve and love those who live in the home with me, doing
the things like Jesus did.
Jesus' promise for the future was a home better than anyone has experienced.
My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there
to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to
be with me so that you also may be where I am. John 14:2
As the Way was being developed and followed the home was the focal point.
Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes
and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, Acts 2:46
Send to Joppa for Simon who is called Peter. He is a guest in the home of Simon the tanner, who
lives by the sea.’ Acts 10:32
When she and the members of her household were baptized, she invited us to her home. “If you
consider me a believer in the Lord,” she said, “come and stay at my house.” And she persuaded
us. Acts 16:15
He (Apollus) began to speak boldly in the synagogue. When Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they
invited him to their home and explained to him the way of God more adequately. Acts 18:26
Is our home a place of Christian hospitality? Is our home a focus of our ministry? Do we invite others in to
introduce them to the loving Jesus who is abiding in our home? Do we use our home to fellowship with
fellow apprentices of Jesus so we can share and grow together?

ed another problem as he described the desperateness of his circumstances.
To this very hour we go hungry and thirsty, we are in rags, we are brutally treated, we are
homeless. 1 Corinthians 4:11
What about the homeless? This could apply to those who are houseless. They literally do not have a
house to stay in. But it could also apply to people who may have never experienced a safe loving home.
What can we do to offer our home as a safe and loving place for others to experience a home where Jesus
and His father reside?
